SPPS Learning Standards Booklets NOW AVAILABLE for Fall 2008!
Saint Paul Public Schools created Learning Standards documents for families to better understand the expectations for our students in tested subject areas (literacy, math, and science) in each grade, and to offer suggestions for how families can support learning at home.

The materials were developed collaboratively by the Office of Academics, Office of Accountability, and the Office of Community Relations.  Funding was provided by Title I.  More information is available on the Learning Standards web
page.

Saint Paul Public Schools and programs can order these documents free of charge through the on-line Learning Standards Order Form.  Please keep in mind the following guidelines as you do so:
  • Place your order well in advance of when you need them.
  • Order more than you need, as long as you will use them.
  • Place a new order if you need more.  If you do, please note in the comments section if it's an additional order, or a revision of a previous one.
  • Put in parents/guardians hands on first contact, preferably
before the first day of school.
    • Suggestion: Keep a running tally of who has received them.
  • Make sure all staff—and key community partners, parent leaders and volunteers—are aware of them and refer to them in contacts with families
    • Suggestion: Pick a few items that your school is going to emphasize in each grade and let all staff and families know what they are at events, etc.
  • Talk about them, refer to them at every opportunity.
    • Suggestion: Use them as a tool at parent-teacher conferences – highlight a standard and home activity
that the family can do, and show them how.
  • Check the Learning Standards page often, to see new materials and new formats – including different grade configurations and one-page handouts ready to copy.
  • Be creative, find ways to use them that work for families, students and staff at your school or program.  Let us know how you’re using them and what works, so we can put these on the Learning Standards page.
