The Guide to Help Your Child Graduate to Something Great
The Guide
Saint Paul Public Schools created The Guide to Help Your Child Graduate to Something Great for families to better understand the expectations for our students in each grade, for graduation and beyond. The Guide also offers suggestions for how families can keep their child on track along their academic path, especially through transition times.

The Guide was developed collaboratively by the Office of Academics, Office of Accountability, and the Office of Community Relations.  Funding was provided by Title I.  More information will be available soon on the SPPS Graduate web page.

Saint Paul Public Schools and programs can order these documents free of charge through the on-line order form.  Please keep in mind the following guidelines as you do so:
  • Place your order well in advance of when you need it.
  • Order more than you need, as long as you will use them.
  • Place a new order if you need more.  If you do, please note in the comments section if it's an additional order, or a revision of a previous one.
  • Put in parents/guardians hands on first contact, preferably before the first day of school.
    • Suggestion: Keep a running tally of who has received it.
  • Make sure all staff—and key community partners, parent leaders and volunteers—are aware of The Guide and refer to them in contacts with families
    • Suggestion: Pick a few items that your school is going to emphasize and let all staff and families know what they are at events, etc.
  • Talk about it, refer to it at every opportunity.
    • Suggestion: Use it as a tool at parent-teacher conferences and other communications. Highlight a specific step that the family can work on, and why it's important to their child's success.
  • Be creative, find ways to use it that works for families, students and staff at your school or program.  Let us know how you’re using them and what works, so we can put these on the SPPS Graduate web page.
